Exercise this weekend and today
Friday was my nephew Rowen's birthday. Since my aunt Sheila, uncle Dan, and his son Martin were in town, we all got together at my uncle Pat's house. He has a large outdoor trampoline, which I tried out while my nephews Kit and Rowen were also jumping in it. I didn't jump much while they were still on the trampoline, because I didn't want to knock them over by making the trampoline move too much. After they got off, I jumped up and down for a while. It was a tougher workout than jumping or running on a mini trampoline, because it went further down and higher up. I later played Bocce Ball with Pat, Dan, and Martin. So I was throwing around balls slightly bigger than croquet balls. On Saturday, I walked up Bridge St., around the train station, around the pollution treatment plant, over the footbridge, and back. I wore 1# wrist weights. When I got home, I did some Pilates, followed by my abdominal workout. I tried out the ab wheel. One thing it is good for is as a footstool while I sit on my balance ball. This makes me work more to stay balanced, since I have to balance myself on both the ball and the wheel. On Sunday, I rode my bike up and down the bike path, then came home and did a lower body workout. I replaced some of my usual exercises with new ones from Strength Ball Training, and did some of my usual ones faster with fewer repetitions. I did full squats with 10# dumbbells by doing them as wall squats with my balance ball. I did split squats with the balance ball instead of my usual stationary lunges. I did hamstring curls by pulling myself on a balance ball while holding a resistance band wrapped around a desk leg. I exercised the adductor and abductor muscles of my thighs by pulling on a resistance band while my foot was on a balance ball. Today, I did pumping and marching in place. This was mainly to stimulate my lymphatic system, to speed along my recovery from working out hard on other days. I learned that the lymphatic system is pumped by muscle action and breathing, and it helps eliminate wastes, including the lactic acid produced while exercising. So instead of doing a strength building workout today, I let today be a recovery day. I was still feeling a bit tired, and when I planned to take a day off on Friday, I still ended up getting some exercise while jumping on a trampoline and playing Bocce Ball.
